Qualifications of RYE Student

Rotary Youth Exchange students are anticipated to be zealous members of their host country and serve as young ambassadors for their home country. Students are also expected to engage in activities with the host families, respect the culture and value system of the host families, obey all program rules, and connect with everyone in a constructive manner throughout their exchange experience.

Activity of RYE Student

RYE students are agile in all aspects of an Ambassador life. They take part in school, engage in non-scholastic activities like sports and culture, build friendships beyond borders, celebrate festivities and other occasions with their host families, and get together with other exchange students for development activities with their Youth Exchange Counselors and Coordinators. The exchange timeline is filled with ample opportunities, and each student adapts to those that best fit their experience.

Q. Why go for a Student Exchange?

Studying abroad often gives a new and broader mentality towards your field of study and offers the chance to explore your passion and interest. The exchange period will improve your language and intercultural communication skills. You will make new friends, gain experiences and confidence, and become familiar with a different culture.

Q. How do I apply to RYE?

Students that are in the age group of 15-18 years should contact the local Rotary Club and understand the available exchange opportunities and the application process.

Q. Who can participate?

RYE is open to students of Rotarian & Non-Rotarian family background. The candidate should meet the age, citizenship, & grade requirement to participate in the program.

Q. Do I need to be fluent in my host country’s language?

RYE is not a language-based program. The applicant is expected to learn the language in the host country. The candidates are selected because of their ability to adapt and flourish in a new environment, not the linguistic skills.

Q.My friends and family relatives live in the host country, can I visit them?

We choose the candidates because they demonstrate adaptability to the new environment. The essence of adaptation ruins by being in contact with the extended family. Therefore travel to meet relatives and friends are avoided. The families can meet the child in the last three months but for that, they need to take permission from the Host District Chair, Host Counselor & Coordinator, and Sponsoring District Chair & Coordinator.

Q. Where can I go for an exchange?

Exchanges can occur between two Rotary Clubs. Our district shares a friendly exchange relationship with Belgium, Brazil, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Mexico, France, Netherlands, Canada, U.S.A, Germany, Argentina, and Taiwan(Camps).

Q. Can I choose my country?

Candidates are asked to share 5 preferences of the countries. The Coordinator will share your application with other districts. The selection happens by the call of the host district.

Q. Are there any Program Rules?

Candidates accepted into the program sign and agree to abide by a list of program rules before they depart from sponsored Rotary Club. While the hosting Rotary club will discuss all program rules with you, you and your parents may wish to review the program rules to be sure that everyone has a clear understanding of what is expected. Program rules generally consist of common-sense stipulations, such as no driving of motor vehicles, no dating, no drinking, no smoking, no dumb things, and the need to obtain special permission for travel while on the exchange.
