RYE OVERVIEW

Each year Rotary Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people the opportunity to meet people from other lands, learn another language, and experience different cultures. It is hoped that this experience will plant the seeds for a lifetime of International Understanding. Another important aspect of the program is the opportunity it offers to outstanding youth to develop their confidence, personality, and maturity to become more responsible and informed citizens.

Exchange Guidelines

To ensure the success of the program. Contractual arrangements with other countries dictate some rules. The safety and security of students are the highest priority. The student is adopted by the entire Rotary Club, not just one host family. Rotary Club Counselor and two host families guide the student. Almost 50 years of experience. The program ensures effective student protection.

YOUTH EXCHANGE HISTORY

The first exchanges began in 1927 involving only European students. The exchanges between California and Latin American countries started in 1939. The activities spread to the Eastern United States in 1958. Youth Exchange became an official program of Rotary International in 1972.
